Bishop Lohse will celebrate Mass on January 22 in honor of the Day of Prayer for the Unborn at 12:10 p.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral.

The General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM), no. 373, designates January 22 as a particular day of prayer and penance, called the "Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children”:

In all the Dioceses of the United States of America, January 22 (or January 23, when January 22 falls on a Sunday) shall be observed as a particular day of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion.

The Third Place Young Adult Group from St. Monica Parish, Kalamazoo will host a debate night this Wednesday, January 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Thunderbird River Ranch in Kalamazoo. The topic will be "Sola Fide: Is it Biblical?"

The Kalamazoo Diocesan Council of Catholic Women will host its annual Lenten Day of Prayer and Reflection on March 1, 2025 at St. Augustine Cathedral. This year's theme is "Hope for the Captives". Special Guest Speaker will be Sister Pat McDonald, OP, who will talk on ending human trafficking. The day will also include Mass, Adoration, Confession, Rosary, Recitation of the prayers associated with the Jubilee year Indulgence since the Cathedral has been named a Pilgrimage site, lunch and more. Catholics nationwide are invited to pray “9 Days for Life,” an annual Respect Life novena starting Thursday, January 16.

In the Catholic Church, a ‘novena’ consists of prayers over nine successive days, and this particular novena is an opportunity for prayer and penance in observance of the annual Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children on January 22.
